5:00 pm to 6:30 pm

Mike Taylor, Seneca, Wolf Clan. "Native American People, Sports Mascots, and Higher Education: Issues of Cultural Appropriation."

Native Americans are varied in their opinions about the uses and displays of race-based images and logos and mascots of certain team names like the Indians, braves, Chiefs, and Redskins. Some see no harm in such portrayal and others see the historical representations of such images as harmful and derogatory. Also involved in the debate, the various policies of post-secondary institutions, athletics governing bodies, and the national level of debate will be included in the topic materials.

This talk is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Warner School of Education and the Office of the Provost.
