A renowned institution with a small undergraduate population of approximately 3,900. The University of Rochester is consistently in the top tier of many "best colleges and universities" lists:

* Ranking 12th among private universities in research productivity, according to The Rise of American Universities.
* Ranked anually in the top 40 universities in the nation, as rated by U.S. News & World Report, and listed with peer institutions including Brandeis, Dartmouth, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago, and Columbia.
