Travel Information to the University of Rochester
Now that your plans are confirmed, how to get to the River Campus may be one of your first questions. If you are traveling by public transportation, Rochester is served by many airlines, by Trailways and Greyhound Bus Lines, and by Amtrak trains. The campus is about two miles from the airport and commercial taxi service is available there. Cab fares should be approximately $9.00 and will vary by depending on the number of people and amount of luggage. Both bus and train stations are close to municipal bus lines which serve the River Campus.
For those of you arriving by air who will be renting a car, you will need to exit the airport onto Brooks Avenue. You will take I-390 South to the first exit, Scottsville Road. Turn left onto Scottsville Road, bear right onto Elmwood Avenue proceeding across the bridge over the Genesee River. A left turn onto Wilson Boulevard leads to the River Campus where you can stop at the visitor information booth to ask for a permit, a token, and directions.
Motorists coming to Rochester via the New York State Thruway, Rt. 90, from the east should use Exit 46; take I-390 North to Exit 17. Turn left onto Scottsville Road, bear right onto Elmwood Avenue proceeding across the bridge over the Genesee River. A left turn onto Wilson Boulevard leads to the River Campus where you can stop at the information booth to ask for permit or directions. From the South, take I-390 North to Exit 17 and proceed as above. From the West, use Thruway Exit 47, take I-490 East to I-390 South to Exit 17 and proceed as above.
Don’t forget to stop at the Visitor’s Information Booth, at the main entrance on Wilson Blvd, to ask for a parking permit, a token, and directions to Dewey Hall.
