Profiles of Meliora Detail

Name: Donald Hume
Job/Grad School: University of Delaware, MS in Biomechanics and Movement Science
Majors/Minors While At UR: B.S. Biomedical Engineering
Brief Description of What You Do: My current focus is on musculoskeletal modeling using a forward-dynamics EMG driven muscle model (Buchanan et al 2004). The goal of my research is to implement the current model in real-time to present subject and study specific bio-feedback. I work with motion capture and other musculoskeletal modeling tools such as SIMM and Visual3D. Applications for this project are inherent in all gait research but specifically we are applying the work to better understand joint loading in stroke, osteoarthritic, and ACL-deficient populations and validate future clinical rehabilitation protocols.
Previous Internships/Research Experience That Helped Get the Job/Grad School Appointment: I worked with Amy Lerner to help create subject specific finite element models of pre- and post-meniscectomy knees to better understand the relative changes in loading exhibited across the tibial plateau.
Clubs/Activities You Were Involved In While At UR: Rugby, Biodiesel, CAB
