What Can I Do With My Major?

The Career Center has identified several resources that are helpful in assisting students and alumni with academic/professional choices and post baccalaureate planning. Please utilize the sites below to help facilitate your decision-making and remember you can always stop by the Career Center for additional assistance or to meet with a counselor.

The University of Rochester Career Center's own publications, developed with individual academic departments, are based on common majors here at UR.

Vault is the Internet's ultimate destination for insider company information, advice and career management services. Included on the site are complete Vault Career Guides to Advertising, Biotech and Consulting (each available for .pdf download), numerous occupational profiles and over 2,500 company snapshots. To access this resource you need the password found on the main screen of yoUR CareerLink once you've logged in. The University of Rochester also has viewable Vault E-books available through the library link http://www.library.rochester.edu/ (search "vault guide").

Spotlight On Careers

The Liberal Arts Career Network provides profiles of 39 popular career fields for Liberal Arts graduates. This site is maintained by career centers at various liberal arts colleges and provides general information about position titles, typical work days, and links to other useful resources. If you are accessing from off campus you will be prompted for a login and password. The username is "lacn" and the password is "holland."

Career Choices

This resource can be particularly helpful when you are choosing a major or when you are looking for career fields/job titles that are related to your major. This website requires Adobe Acrobat reader in order to view the information. There are also hard copies of this available in the Goldberg Career Resource Library.
