I. INTRODUCTORY COURSES 3 courses, 12 credits		  
  1. BIO 110 Principles of Biology I (4 cr) or BIO 112 Perspectives in Biology I (4 cr)  
      There is no companion laboratory, however, note co-registration in a 2 hour workshop.
     
2. BIO 111 Principles of Biology II (4 cr) or BIO 113 Perspectives in Biology II (4 cr)
    BIO 111P  Introductory Biology Lab (1 cr) is the companion laboratory for BIO 111
    BIO 113P Perspectives in Biology Lab (1 cr) is the companion laboratory for BIO 113
     
3. BIO 198 Principles of Genetics (4 cr)    
   BIO 198P Principles of Genetics Lab (1 cr) is the companion laboratory for BIO 198.
     
     
 
II. LABORATORY EXPERIENCE 2-3 laboratories		  
  1. MBI 221W Microbiology Lab (4 cr) It is recommended that the lab be taken in the Junior year.  
   
2. ________ This may be a full laboratory course in a biological science (which may also satisfy the elective/diversification requirement below) or two half-laboratory courses (see available labs). We strongly encourage taking XXX 395 Independent Research (4 cr - which does not count as an elective/diversification course).

  1. ______ This course must be a 200-level (or higher) course, from outside the Microbiology curriculum. It is to be selected from those courses offered through the Undergraduate Program in Biology (See UPBM Course Offerings). The course may be a laboratory course, and fulfill the supplemental laboratory requirement.

VI. UPPER-LEVEL WRITING REQUIREMENT (2 courses)		  
  1. ______ All biology majors must complete two upper-level writing courses. Although students are strongly encouraged to complete both upper-level writing requirements with Biological Science courses; a natural science upper-level writing course can be used to meet one of the requirements. Independent Research (395W) courses may also be used to satisfy an upper-level writing requirement as well.
