Minoring in Philosophy

Each minor requires five courses chosen with the Philosophy Department advisor; there is considerable flexibility in the choice of these courses.

  • The following four plans are available:
  • Plan A - Philosophy of Science: PHL 110, 252, and three other courses in philosophy of science. Courses include PHL 105, 106, 218, 243, 244, 253, 352, 391.
  • Plan B - Ethics: PHL 102 and four other courses in ethics and related areas. Courses include PHL 103, 220, 223, 224, 225, 226, 228, 230, 308, 391.
  • Plan C - History of Philosophy: PHL 201 and 202 and three other courses in the history of philosophy. Courses include PHL 261, 265, 266, 267, 268, 315, 319, 320, 323, 370.
  • Plan D - Individualized program: Students may devise, in consultation with the undergraduate advisor, their own five-course minor in philosophy.
  • Several Philosophy Department Faculty members are involved in the interdisciplinary legal studies minor.
