Why Study Abroad?

Study abroad is an integral part of the undergraduate curriculum. About a third of each graduating class completes coursework overseas.

  • Each student has different reasons for studying abroad. You might:
  • be inspired by a subject discovered in your classes;
  • hope to develop fluency in another language, or immersion in another culture;
  • seek adventure or wish to pursue career-enhancing international experiences.

Whatever your motives, you’ll find that your overseas studies complement your academic majors and allow you to develop new interests leading to future research or career endeavors.

What will I experience?

Study abroad places you in an intensified learning environment in another country. Classroom instruction and library research may be complemented by homestays, academic internships, field study, or community service. These create a rich context for experiential learning. You will return well informed about customs and conditions in other countries, and with a keen understanding of what it means to be American.
