Duties of YAC Members

The Young Alumni Council is made up of 33 young alumni volunteers with representatives from each of the ten most recent graduating classes. The success of the Council depends largely on the leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication provided by the Council's members. These volunteers work to generate programming initiatives and activities, while the Office of College Advancement's staff works to implement the endeavors.

The Young Alumni Council (YAC) is made up of young alumni volunteers with representatives from each of the ten most recently graduated classes. The success of the Council depends largely on the leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication provided by the Council's members. These volunteers work to generate programming, communications, and development initiatives, while staff from the Offices of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving work to implement the endeavors.

  • YAC member responsibilities include the following:
  • Participate in three to four YAC conference call meetings throughout the year. If the member is unable to participate, an effort must be made to learn what was missed.
  • Active participation in at least one of the Council’s committees; taking part in separate committee conference calls and communications as needed.
  • Support the College Annual Fund by being an active True Blue member. This means that YAC members are required to make a gift to the University of Rochester each fiscal year.
  • Active participation and attendance in Council-related activities such as regional events, the True Blue Society, and other young alumni programs.
  • Represent the Young Alumni Council, the Offices of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, and the University of Rochester whether they are on campus or in their respective community.

Members serve for a term of two years. Members may be eligible for re-election to additional two year terms at the expiration of their first term. Council member's terms coincide with the College's reunion activity and Meliora Weekend.

From its inception, the Council has attempted to be a dynamic, proactive group. Each member is expected to be active and willing to take on responsibilities related to the goals of the Young Alumni Council.
