Ph.D. Graduate Student Health Fees

The mandatory health fee became part of the stipend paid to Ph.D. students in the academic year 2003/04 and has now become fully phased-in. A student's health fee will be paid for as long as the student receives a stipend.

Note that the source of the funds used to pay the health fee is to be the same source that pays the stipend. For example, if the stipend is paid 100% out of the departmental 2-ledger, then 100% of the health fee would be paid out of a College account (see below). If 100% of the stipend is paid out of a grant, then 100% of the health fee would be paid out of the grant. If there is a split in stipend funding, the health fee would be split proportionally. We have created specific account numbers for these fees when they are paid by the College.

  • Account Numbers:
  • 2-11098 for Arts and Sciences departments
  • 2-11099 for SEAS departments

Please use subcode 2970. It is the department's responsibility to enter the account number on the 506 form for each student.

As a reminder, the College is only paying the mandatory health fee, not the cost of health insurance, and only for the graduate students themselves. If a department wishes to cover a spouse's health fee, that still needs to come out of departmental funds.
