The Department of Computer Science is a research-oriented department with a distinguished history of contributions in systems, theory, artificial intelligence, and HCI. We have a collaborative culture and strong ties to cognitive science, linguistics, and ECE. Over the past decade, a third of its PhD graduates have won tenure-track faculty positions, and its alumni include leaders at major research laboratories such as Google, Microsoft, and IBM.
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering has active research groups in computer systems, VLSI, signal processing and communications, medical imaging, audio and acoustics, and physical electronics. The department has a collegial atmosphere, strongly funded research programs, and an outstanding student body from our undergraduates through our Ph.D. students. The department strongly encourages collaboration; and research collaborations have spanned all six of the University's Schools including Arts, Sciences and Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing, Music, Business, and Education.
