Big Data

The Departments of Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Rochester seek applicants for a tenure-track position in big data research, including the areas of:

  • Machine learning and data mining
  • Cloud computing
  • Very large databases
  • E-Science applications
  • Applications of signal processing to the analysis of big data sets
  • Distributed systems and sensor networks
  • Content-based multimedia management and search

Background:

The Department of Computer Science is a research-oriented department with a distinguished history of contributions in systems, theory, artificial intelligence, and HCI. We have a collaborative culture and strong ties to cognitive science, linguistics, and ECE. Over the past decade, a third of its PhD graduates have won tenure-track faculty positions, and its alumni include leaders at major research laboratories such as Google, Microsoft, and IBM.

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering has active research groups in computer systems, VLSI, signal processing and communications, medical imaging, audio and acoustics, and physical electronics. The department has a collegial atmosphere, strongly funded research programs, and an outstanding student body from our undergraduates through our Ph.D. students. The department strongly encourages collaboration; and research collaborations have spanned all six of the University's Schools including Arts, Sciences and Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing, Music, Business, and Education.

Half of its undergraduates go on to post-graduate or professional education. Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline.
