In the fall of 2010 I conducted field work in the Czech Republic and Poland. In the Czech Republic, after going through language training, I conducted interviews with governors and deputy governors of five different administrative regions. I also had a chance to witness the electoral campaign for the elected offices of the city of Prague.
2010 Local Elections in Poland
Seat distribution in Regional Assemblies
After conducting field work in the Czech Republic I moved to Poland, just in time to witness the last few days of the electoral campaigns for the local offices; voters elected officeholders at the commune, county, and regional levels. I focused on the results of the election at the regional level, where the deputies to Regional Assemblies were elected. I observed the press reports of coalition formation in different regions and then conducted interviews in four of the regions. This, together with my experience in the Czech Republic, provided valuable data and insight for one of the chapters of my dissertation.
