2007 - 2008 Student Edition

Fall 2007

Fri. Aug. 17 Last day to submit Master's Programs of Study for October 2007 degree candidates.
Thurs. Aug. 30 MA/MS students receiving terminal degrees in October must be degree complete by this date. Plan A students must submit 2 final corrected thesis copies in the Graduate Studies Office.
Thurs. Aug. 30 Last day to submit 2 corrected copies of Ph.D. dissertation for Oct. 2007 degree in Dean Jacob's Office.
NOTE: If this deadline is not met, student must register and pay the appropriate fee for the fall semester at X time status.
Mon. Sept. 3 Labor Day - University is closed. This day cannot be counted as a working days in meeting deadlines.
Tues. Sept. 4 First day of classes - fall semester.
Sept. 4 - 14 No Ph.D. defenses may be held during the first two weeks of the fall semester.
Mon. Sept. 17 First day to hold Ph.D. defense in the fall semester.
NOTE: Thesis and paperwork having been submitted to the Graduate Studies Office by Aug. 17, 2007.
Tues. Sept. 18 Deadline for fall Registration.
NOTE: $150 late fee after this date.
Fri. Sept. 28 Last Day for Plan A or B final examination - oral, written, essay for October degree conferral. (August 30, 2007 deadline for students not registering for fall.)
Mon. Oct 1 Non-terminal Plan A students must submit 2 final corrected copies in the Graduate Studies Office. All documents (exam reports, grade changes, etc.) must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office by this date (Program of Study deadline was Aug. 17, 2007) to remain on October conferral list.
Tues. Oct. 16 Drop/Add/Audit Deadline for fall 2007. Withdrawal permitted only if time status is not affected. Last day to submit Master's Programs of Study for March 2008 degree candidates.
Fri. Oct. 19 Board of Trustees meeting - degrees conferred.
Mon. Nov. 12 Last day to submit Ph.D. dissertation and paperwork to Graduate Studies Office for the fall semester.
NOTE: If this deadline is not met, then the defense may not be held until the spring semester.
Nov. 22 - Nov. 23 Thanksgiving Holiday. University is closed. These two days cannot be counted as working days in meeting deadlines.
Dec. 20 - Jan. 2 Due to recess and holidays, no Ph.D. defenses may be held during this time period.
Tues. Dec. 25 The University is closed. This day cannot be counted as a working day in meeting deadlines.
Tues. Jan. 1 The University is closed. This day cannot be counted as a working day in meeting deadlines.
Jan. 3 - Jan. 11 Ph.D. defenses may be held during this time period only if the dissertation was accepted in the Graduate Studies Office by the Nov. 12 deadline.

Apr. 24 - May 27 Due to end-of-semester deadlines, commencements, and recess, Ph.D. defenses may not be held during this time period.

Summer 2008

Wed. May 28 First day to hold Ph.D. defense for summer 2008.
Wed. June 25 Last day to register Ph.D. dissertation in the Office of the University Dean of Graduate Studies for the summer 2008.
NOTE: If this deadline is not met, then the defense may not be held until the fall semester.
Fri. July 4 4th of July Holiday. The University is closed. This day cannot be counted as a working day in meeting deadlines.
Fri. Aug. 15 Last day to hold Ph.D. defense in summer 2008.
Aug. 18 - Sept. 12 No defense may be held during this time period.
Wed. Aug. 27 Last day to submit corrected copies of the Ph.D. dissertation for the Oct. 2008 degree.
NOTE: If this deadline is not met, student must register and pay the appropriate fees for the fall semester at X time status.
University policy for Ph.D. defenses for Summer
The final oral examination for the degree Doctor of Philosophy during summer 2008 cannot be held until at least 25 full working days have elapsed after the dissertation has been registered in the Office of Graduate Studies, 218 Lattimore. This policy supersedes the published 15 full working day rule ("Regulations and University Policies Concerning Graduate Studies", Final Oral Examination) for summer 2008.
