David T. Kearns Center
Key Components of the Kearns Center
The principal components of the Kearns Center are as follows:
- Scholarship support, advising, and mentoring will be provided to undergraduate students engaged in the study of science, mathematics, or engineering. As the endowment grows, scholarship support will be extended to students at the graduate and post-doctoral levels as well. (click here for application)
- A national leadership development program, including seminars and visiting lecturers, will be a cornerstone of the Center’s work. A diverse group of scientists, engineers and professionals will be invited to the Kearns Center as guest speakers and potential mentors. All Kearns Scholars will participate in this seminar and visiting lecture series. Each Kearns scholar will benefit from an on-campus academic advisor as well as a leadership mentor from a national pool.
- A faculty development program will provide training and tools for faculty, who may be unused to working closely with diverse undergraduate and graduate student populations. This program will work in conjunction with on-going faculty development efforts in the targeted disciplines, and has already been enthusiastically received.
- Because of the leaky scientific pipeline, the Kearns Center will also house programs in support of science and technology education in K-12 levels.
