Winter Break will begin Sunday, December 21.

Final exams end on Sunday, December 21, 2013, and classes begin on Wednesday, January 14, 2014. Between those times, the College is pleased to provide the following services and opportunities to students. Thursday, December 25 and Thursday, January 1 are University Holidays and all offices will be closed.

ARE YOU STAYING?

Residence Halls

Residence halls will close at 9:00am on Monday, December 22 and re-open at 9:00am on Saturday, January 10, 2014. Meal plans end on Monday, December 22 and begin again on Saturday, January 10.

If you intend to stay over the break, you must register through Residential Life and Housing Services at http://www.rochester.edu/reslife/winter-break.html.

Events

There will be several free lunches offered by departments over break. Please check back here for sign-ups.

There is a Winter Break Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/URBreaks, which you can “Like” to get up-to-the-minute updates on programs and events, and connect with other students in the area—possibly host your own get-together!

The College will host a number of shopping trips with free transportation throughout the break, which all pick up behind the IT Center:

Lunches

A number of campus offices will have lunch available for the first 25 students who come to each of the following Winter Break Lunch Series. Sign up can be done online (link TBA).

Games

Go cheer on the Yellowjackets! The following games will take place during the break:

  • December 31, 2014, 4:00 pm – Men’s Basketball vs. Brock University (Canada) Exhibition game, Palestra (entry will be through the Palestra Doors in the Goergen Athletic Center)
  • January 10, 2015, 12:00 noon – Men’s Basketball vs. Emory University, Palestra
  • January 10, 2015, 2:00 pm – Women’s Basketball vs. Emory University , Palestra

Schedules

Dining Hours

Dining Services' hours of operation will be reduced during the break. The Hillside POD will be open on Monday, December 22 from 7:30 am - 11:00 am for you to stock up on food for the rest of break (it is next open on Saturday, January 10). Meal plans end on Monday, December 23 and become active again on Friday, January 10.

There will be no service Tuesday, December 23 through Sunday, January 4. Lunch service will be available January 5 - 9, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner service will start on Saturday, January 10.

Transportation

The fall semester schedules will end their normal service on Sunday, December 21, and the spring semester schedules will begin their normal service on Monday, January 12, 2015.

  • The winter break blue/orange schedule will operate Monday, December 22 through Friday, January 9, with no service on Christmas or New Year's Day.
  • The Silver Line will resume normal schedule on Friday, January 2, 2015.
  • College Town Express will operate on January 10 and January 11.

Between Monday, December 22 and Friday, January 9, the Blue Line will run 7:10 am - 9:50 pm, and the Orange Line will run 7:50am-5:10pm, both lines run only Monday through Friday. The Orange Line will have a reduced schedule, traveling between Rush Rhees Library and Eastman Living Center via Alexander St. For complete bus schedules, please visit the Parking and Transportation website at http://www.rochester.edu/parking/options/busesandshuttles.html.

RTS, the mass-transit system for the city of Rochester, will be operating with continuous service through the break, including University Holidays. Stops include the South Wedge, Marketplace Mall, Village Gate and East Ave. Wegmans. One-way tickets cost $1 and can be bought on the bus in cash, or in advance at the River Campus Parking Office (located in Fauver Stadium), the URMC Parking Office, or at the RTS website. Finally, the University has a partnership with Marketplace Taxi to provide flat-rate transportation to locations around Rochester, including the airport, Amtrak station, and Greyhound Bus Station. Full information, including rates, is at: http://www.rochester.edu/parking/options/STS.html.

Athletics and Recreation

International Services Office:

The office will be open throughout the winter break with some exceptions for Holidays.

The office will close at noon on December 24 and will be closed 12/25 and 12/26, the office will reopen on December 29.

The office will be closed on 1/1 and 1/2 and will reopen on 1/5.

Libraries

River Campus Libraries will be open throughout break, except for weekends and University holidays. Beginning on Monday, January 5, the libraries will be open every day, until 10:00pm on weekdays and 5:00pm on weekends.
