Statement of Relationship

The Statement of Relationship between the University of Rochester and its affiliated Greek-lettered organizations reaffirms the University's commitment to a strong and viable fraternity and sorority system as a living option for it students. It also recognizes that a fundamental premise for the existence and sustenance of a strong fraternity and sorority system is the cooperative relationship between the University, the Greek-lettered organizations, local alumni advisors, and the national and international Greek-lettered organizations. It is the intent of this document, therefore, to define and clarify the mutual expectations, rights, and responsibilities of all participants in this vital partnership.

Procedures for Recognition of Fraternities and Sororities

As The College advances and adapts to the changing needs of students, so too must the fraternity and sorority system. In efforts to provide a fair and accurate review of new groups, as well as ensure the proper support for existing groups as outlined in the Statement of Relationship, the following procedures for recognition of fraternities and sororities will be applied in the event of expansion. The University of Rochester reserves the right to implement a moratorium on expansion or re-colonization at any time. This policy will serve as a guideline for all groups with the intent to establish a new social Greek-lettered organization at the University of Rochester.

Chapter House Officer Manual

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs has compiled this Chapter House Officer Manual as a resource for the fraternity-operated chapter houses on the Fraternity Quad chapters to aid the Chapter House officer team which includes, but is not limited to, the chapter President, Treasurer, House Manager, Kitchen Steward and Alumni Advisor in their role in providing a safe, clean, enjoyable environment for all residents. It is not intended to be all-inclusive, as it is important to recognize that there are numerous resources for you to take advantage of. As part of the UR Fraternity and Sorority Community, it is also important to understand that if you have specific questions or concerns you can contact the OFSA staff team.

Fraternity and Sorority Den

The Fraternity and Sorority Den, located on the first floor of Spurrier Gym, is available to recognized members and groups affiliated with the University of Rochester Fraternity President’s Council (FPC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and Panhellenic Association (PHA). The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs will have the authority to grant usage to other University of Rochester recognized student organizations.
