Rochester Scholars Summer 2008

Alysha Alani is a sophomore at Pittsford Sutherland High School. She loves writing poetry and has been published as part of the Interfaith Youth Poetry Project in Philadelphia. Alysha won third place in the Music and Arts “Give the Gift of Music” Essay contest in 2007, along with the Larry E. McGriff Music Dedication Award that same year at her school, Paxon Hollow Middle. She is an active participant in her high school community as a member of the Varsity Bowling team and the co-editor-in-chief of the newspaper, The Midknight Express. She also participates in band, yearbook club, the student broadcast club, The Knightly News, and Interact. Alysha enjoyed Rochester Scholars’ Summer Science Academy during the summer 2008 session and hopes to work for a non-profit, humanitarian organization one day. She is also considering a career in public health or medical law.

Rochester Scholars Summer 2008

Meaghan Lambert is a junior at Our Lady of Mercy High School. She received accreditation for taking the National Latin Examination in 2008 placing cum laude. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and recipient of the Social Studies Academic Award. In her spare time she is an active dancer participating in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz and lyrical, even receiving the Jessica Henderson Scholarship Dancer award. Meaghan had a great time participating in Rochester Scholars taking What’s Up Doc? and The Magic of Molars & Wisdom of Teeth. She “would recommend these classes to anyone with a wish for experience, fun, and learning!”

Rochester Scholars Summer 2008

Danielle Stoner is a sophomore at Ruben A. Cirillo High School. She was a finalist in the Anthem Essay Contest for the Ayn Rand Institute and took the SAT as a seventh grader as part of John Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth Talent Search. Danielle, who maintains a 97 average in school, plays the piano, flute and saxophone, and has been dancing at the Sandy Stramonine School of Dance for ten years. Danielle “thoroughly” enjoyed taking What’s Up Doc. She “strongly recommends this course to anyone who feels they want to go into medicine” and plans to apply to the Rochester Early Medical Scholars program.
