Advising students

What kinds of support are available to me?

From the time you are admitted, you will work closely with a dedicated, experienced health professions adviser, who will help you select your courses, counsel you about the medical school application process, offer critiques of medical school application essays, and advise you about obtaining letters of recommendation. When you are ready to apply, we will prepare a comprehensive letter of recommendation about your individual strengths to accompany your medical school application. Your academic journey will be supported with the “Leading a Life in Medicine” discussion sessions offered by doctors from the University of Rochester medical school; these doctor-professors will speak about their own careers and research. In individual meetings with your pre-health adviser, you will discuss the application process for medical or other health professions schools. You will learn about preparing for the MCAT, writing the admissions essay, financing medical school, and getting ready for the medical school interview. Each year, one or two former post-bac pre-med students who are in their glide year serve as course facilitators for our current post-bac students. These facilitators hold review sessions and one-on-one tutoring sessions.
