Jerzy Stuhr Retrospective

This year, in a sign of the event’s growing importance, the Skalny Center has attracted for the first time financial backing from the Polish Filmmakers Association. This support made it possible to expand the festival beyond the scale of previous years and to invite a special guest, Rector Jerzy Stuhr, one of Poland’s most acclaimed actors, screenplay writers, and directors, to headline the event.

His three-day stay in Rochester included a public panel discussion attended by approximately one-hundred fans following a screening of Korowód, a gala reception the following day, a book signing and a visit to the University of Rochester campus the day after that. Randall Stone, the director of the Skalny Center, was interviewed in connection with the Film Festival on one local television station, RNews, and appeared together with Rector Stuhr on another. Click here for RNews coverage of the Festival.

Altogether, we had fifteen media “hits” for the festival, including an article in the major Rochester-area daily newspaper, the Democrat and Chronicle, and coverage in the City Newspaper. In addition, the festival was reviewed by the University of Rochester and by the High Falls Film Festival newsletter and was picked up in to Polish-American national websites, Polish News and Polonia Today. Attendance at the festival was much higher than in previous years.

We are very greatful to Bob Russel, the Little Theatre's director, and his entire crew for the excellent organization of this event. We also appreciate very much UR senior student Eric Głowacki's help as a translator.

The program of the Festival follows.
