Latest screen version of a late 19th-century epochal play by Jarry about human greed, cowardice, and stupidity is directed by Piotr Szulkin, whose distinctive sci-fi films ("Golem," "O-Bi, O-Ba -- The End of Civilization") made him a name in the '70s and '80s.

Ubu (Jan Peszek) egged on by his Lady Macbeth-like wife, Ubica (Katarzyna Figura) pretends to fight for freedom and democracy in order to seize power from the reigning monarch in the ficticious land of Foland .

Piotr Szulkin

Director, writer, and stage designer. Graduated from Leon Schiller's Film School in Lódz. Made more than 30 films and received more than 50 international awards.
