Distinguished Donors

The Skalny Center experienced a painful loss in the past academic year with the passing of two our great friends and supporters, Joseph S. Skalny and Anna R. Skalny. Joseph Skalny passed away on December 3, 2008 at the age of 94. His sister, Anna Skalny, passed away on April 23 at the age of 92. They were trustees of the Louis Skalny Foundation, which made the generous gift that established Polish studies at the University of Rochester in 1994 and renewed the commitment by creating an endowment in 1999.

They received the Cavalier Cross of Merit of Poland for their support of Polish culture in America. They are very much missed.
