Annual Events in Undergraduate Research
Undergraduate Research Fair
The Research Fair connects undergraduates looking for research experiences with departments, labs, and other resources that can help that search. Undergraduates frequently voice frustration about how difficult it is to get started when they set out to become involved in research. The process isn’t as simple as many of them seem to expect initially. There are discipline and departmental differences in the research culture and expectations that lead to the need for local guidance as the students seek research opportunities.
To help provide this guidance about getting started in undergraduate research the Office of Undergraduate Research holds an annual Undergraduate Research Fair in September. Patterned after the Study Abroad Fair and the Academic Open Houses, there will be tables populated by knowledgeable experts from each department/program who can answer questions concerning undergraduate research in that discipline.
This year's Research Fair will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 3-5 pm in the Hawkins Carlson Room of Rush Rhees Library.
The annual Undergraduate Research Exposition is a College-wide event in which University of Rochester students at all levels and in all areas of study are invited to present their investigative and creative work. The expo reflects the passion for learning that enlivens the University, professors and students alike, and that finds expression in varied forms, in every area of study.
This year's Research Expo is on Friday, April 20, 2018.
NCUR is an annual conference for primary research and artistic performance by undergraduate students, encompassing natural and social sciences, humanities, arts, and engineering. Since its beginning, the conference has enjoyed the active support of major American colleges and universities.
Student investigators can present their work at NCUR as an oral presentation or in a poster format. NCUR participants are also eligible to submit texts of their presentations to be considered for publication in the annual NCUR Proceedings, a juried publication.
