National Conference on Undergraduate Research—Application Information
If you are interested in attending NCUR to present your research, please read all the information below.
Contact the Office of Undergraduate Research to let us know you are planning to submit an application. We'll be able to answer any questions you may have at that time.
Completed applications must be received by our office no later than November 1st.
Who should apply?
Students should apply only if:
- they have authentic primary research projects completed or substantially underway at the time of application (projects may be independent or a part of a team investigation) and;
- they have the strong support of their faculty research advisors.
The Office of Undergraduate Research is committed to sending as many undergraduate investigators in as many fields as possible to NCUR each year, within the constraints of the financial support available to the Office to cover travel expenses.
How do students apply?
Submit your application, as outlined below, via e-mail to Priscilla Auchincloss, Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Mentoring. In addition, a letter of support from your faculty advisor must also be sent by e-mail directly to Dr. Auchincloss.
Completed applications are due by November 1.
The student's application must contain the following 4 items:
- A cover sheet including all of the following:
- Title of presentation
- Author
- Abstract (a concise, 150-200 word summary, which has been reviewed by faculty advisor)
- Type of presentation (talk or poster)
- Student's name, UR class (graduating year), and intended major
- Student's e-mail address
- Student's address
- Student's phone number
- Faculty advisor's name and departmental affiliation
- Faculty advisor's e-mail address
- Faculty advisor's UR address and phone number
- A Text of Proposal describing the student's work to be presented at NCUR. The main text should be no more than 3 pages and should include the following:
(NOTE: The research on which the student will report must be underway and well defined by the time of the application. This should not be a proposal for work yet to begin.)- Introduction
- Specific questions to be covered in presentations
- Techniques used (materials and methods)
- Results or findings, whether preliminary or final
- Acknowledgements (sponsor, advisor)
- Student's Resume
- Name and e-mail of person(s) providing supporting letter(s). A letter of support sent by the faculty advisor to the Office of Undergraduate Research and Mentoring is necessary to complete the application.
