Changing the Side Navigation Menu
Problem
You want to add a link to a page or file in the side navigation menu on your pages, or you want to change a label that already appears in the side menu.
Solution
The side navigation menu is created automatically from the pages and folders in your site within the WCMS.
A folder will not appear in the side navigation menu unless it contains a page named "index." You can specify whether a link to a page will appear in the side navigation.
To add a link to the index page of a folder:
- If a page named "index" does not exist yet, then add it. (For instructions, click on "Adding a new page" in the Cookbook section.)
- Select the folder that contains this index page
- Click on the Edit tab
- Click the Metadata link (just below the tabs)
- In the Display Name field, type the label that you want for the index page in the side navigation menu
- Click Submit
To add a link to a non-index page:
- If the page does not exist yet, then add it. (For instructions, click on "Adding a new page" in the Cookbook section.)
- Select the page that you want to add, and click on Edit
- In the Display Name field inside the Inline Metadata section, type the label that you want for this page in the side navigation menu
- Select True for "Display in side menu?" or "Show this page in side menu?"
- Click Submit
To change a label in the side navigation menu:
- Select the page that is the target for this link
- Click on the Edit tab
- If you want to change the label, then change the text in the Display Name field inside the Inline Metadata section
- If you want to remove the link to this page, then deselect True for "Display in side menu?" or select False for "Show this page in side menu?" (This varies from site to site in the WCMS.)
- Click Submit
The changes in your side navigation menu will appear in the WCMS right away, but it will not change on your web site until all the pages are published.
