Changing the Side Navigation Menu

Problem

You want to add a link to a page or file in the side navigation menu on your pages, or you want to change a label or link that already appears in the side menu.

Solution

The side navigation menu is a content block inside the _content / menu_blocks folder within the WCMS. Each section of your site may have a separate side menu block. (If you do not have menu blocks in your site, see changing automatically generated side menus.)

A page will not appear in the side navigation menu unless it is added to the appropriate menu block.

To add a link to the side menu block:

  1. Select the appropriate file in _content /menu_blocks
  2. Click on the Edit tab
  3. Click the + on an existing Menu Block Menu Item
  4. In the Item Label field, type the label that you want for the page in the side navigation menu
  5. Complete the appropriate link field (internal, external or internal file)
  6. Click Submit

To change or remove a link in the side navigation menu:

  1. Select the appropriate file in _content /menu_blocks
  2. Click on the Edit tab
  3. If you want to change the label, then change the text in the Item Label field
  4. If you want to remove the link to this page, then select - for the existing Menu Block Menu Item
  5. Click Submit

The changes in your side navigation menu will appear in the WCMS right away, but it will not change on your web site until all pages on which it appears are published.

Tip: You can reorder the menu items by using the up and down action arrows.
