- Freshmen Invited: Peer Coaching Program
- Monday, August 25, 2008 at 9:00am
Location to be determined
- Last year, UR WISE developed a pilot peer-to-peer mentoring program that assigned small groups of freshmen in select majors to junior and senior students in order to help the new students adjust to college life and courses within their intended majors.
- This year, there are once again only a handful of freshmen women who are intending to major in computer science (CSC), electrical and computer engineering (ECE), mechanical engineering (ME), optics (OPT), mathematics (MTH/APM), chemical engineering (CHE), and physics and astronomy (PHY/PAS/AST).
- If you are a freshman thinking about majoring in one of these majors and would like to be assigned a pari of upperclass students to help you feel part of a community where you are successful, encouraged and supported, please accept this invitation to join our Peer Coaching Program by clicking the "Attending" button no later than August 1.
- You will be expected to communicate regularly with your co-coaches, attend 2-3 group events each semester, and share any concerns you have with the coordinator of the Peer Coaching Program.
- For more information, contact Melanie Pelcher or visit the facebook event page.
- UR WISE Freshman Breakfast: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
- Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 9:30am - 12:00pm
Interfaith Chapel
- If you would like to volunteer to distribute information and answer questions about the WISE program please e-mail Melanie Pelcher at mpelcher@mail.rochester.edu.
- Mentors Needed: Peer Coaching Program: UPPERCLASS MENTORS NEEDED!

- If you are a junior or senior WISE student who remembers how it felt to lose your support structure, question your ability to succeed in a predominantly male environment, not know how to access information and services, and wonder whether all the time you’re putting into to your chosen major will be worth it in the long run, PLEASE volunteer to be a Peer Coach. You will be expected to communicate regularly with your co-coach and mentees, attend 2-3 group events each semester, and share any concerns you have with the coordinator of the Peer Coaching Program.
- If you are interested in learning more about being a peer coach, please contact Melanie Pelcher, and she will get in touch with you later in the summer with additional information.
