Minors and Clusters

We offer two minors and two clusters in the humanities and social sciences academic divisions.

Minors

We offer two minors in gender, sexuality, and women’s studies (GSW), one in the humanities and one in the social sciences. To complete a minor, a student must take five GSW courses (20 credits). Students may apply up to 2 courses taken abroad toward their GSW minor.

GSW 105: Sex and Power

GSW 200: History of Feminism: Colloquium

Humanities minor:

  • One core course in the humanities
  • Two GSW elective courses, one must be a humanities course

Social Sciences Minor:

  • One core course in the social sciences
  • Two GSW elective courses, one must be a social sciences course

Clusters

Each cluster contains a minimum of twelve credits of coursework, which is equivalent, in most cases, to three courses. The GSW clusters fall within one of the following academic divisions: humanities or social sciences. 

Humanities Cluster

Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (H1WST007)

This cluster focuses on gender, sexuality, and women's studies from a humanities perspective including courses in film, literature, art history, and music as well as in philosophy, queer theory, religion, and more.

Social Sciences Cluster

Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (S1WST006)

This cluster focuses on gender, sexuality, and women's studies from a social sciences perspective including courses on health, linguistics, history, human rights, political science, psychology, and more.
