The ceremony for the MD degree from the School of Medicine and Dentistry recognized more than 100 graduates in the Class of 2012.

“I know with you as our graduates, the country is in good hands,” said Mark Taubman, dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, as he addressed the class.
“You are embarking on a great adventure. You will be learning more and experiencing more than in any other time in your life. Enjoy the ride”—Timothy Quill, professor of medicine, psychiatry, and medical humanities, who was selected by the class to speak.

“It is not only important to do good, you have to be good. You never know who is watching,” U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin told the graduating class.
“You will have so many opportunities to be a voice for your patients, to speak up for them. Take those opportunities”—U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, who received an honorary doctor of science degree.
Members of the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s Class of 2012 recite the Graduation Oath, which begins, “I solemnly pledge myself to consecrate my life to the service of humanity.”
