Art and space

Astronaut Story Musgrave, who has logged 1,282 hours in space on six NASA missions, will give a presentation titled, An Artist's View of Space at 4 p.m., on Friday, January 24, in Hubbell Auditorium.

Musgrave, whose most recent space mission ended just last month, is the Society of Physics Students Distinguished Lecturer and will meet with a group of undergraduates before his lecture.

New Year's resolution

A Weight Watchers At-Work Program meets every Wednesday, from noon to 1 p.m., in the Medical Center for all University faculty, staff, and students. For more information, call Lindy Sutter, (800) 234-8080.

Clip 'n bookmark

The Edward G. Miner Library's class schedule for the spring semester is now available on the web at: http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/Miner/Educ/Classes.html.

Introductory and advanced classes are available on searching Miner's medical literature databases, including Medline and the nursing literature (CINAHL), complemented by clinics on the use of soft ware to manage citations (Reference Manager/EndNote). Other Internet classes are also available. Registration is required. Call the Miner Reference Desk at x5-2487, or e-mail info@miner.rochester.edu.

Volunteer interpreters

The Medical Center needs speakers of languages other than Spanish to volunteer as interpreters.

Spring break childcare

The University Family Care Program is sponsoring a Vacation Club for children ages five through 12. Operated by Campfire Boys and Girls, the program is open to children of University employees and will be held from February 17 through 21, and April 14 through 18, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., on the River Campus.

Finance on the web

The University's Finance Department is now on the University Web, at http://www.uis. rochester.edu/finance. The web site includes department information, the official ledger subcode listing, and a link to the Bursar's Office.

Physics for young women

The Department of Physics and Astronomy will again host the Pre-College Experience in Physics, a month-long summer program that introduces local high school women to the world of professional science. The non-credit, non-residential program will run from June 30 through August 1 and is for young women finishing the freshman or sophomore year in high school. For more information, call x5-5306.

Travel shows

Representatives from the University's three authorized travel agenciesTown and Country Travel, Van Zile/Red Carpet, and Niagara Frontier Travelwill be available to members of the University com munity for two travel information shows in January. The representatives will answer questions from faculty and staff; door prizes and refreshments will be provided. Shows will be held on January 28, in Wilson Commons, and January 29, in Helen Wood Hall, from 1-3:30 p.m. both days.
