Miracle Weekend

Miracle Weekend, May 31-June 1, is a celebration of the "miracles" that have taken place at Children's Hospital at Strong. The entire University community is invited to participate in the following events: Stroll for Strong Kids, Saturday, May 31, 11 a.m.-noon, Genesee Valley Park; Sandy Strong Day, Sunday, June 1, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., outside Elmwood Avenue entrance to the Medical Center; and other activities include the "Sandy 500," an eight-hour team relay on Saturday, May 31 in Genesee Valley Park.

Working women

A national working women's summit, Economic Equity: Realities, Responsibilities and Rewards, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, will be held on June 5, from 12:30 to 4 p.m., in Room 1-7619, Medical Center. A satellite broadcast at the summit will feature several women, including Hillary Rodham Clinton. A panel discussion will be held following the broadcast.

Naturopathic medicine

Joseph E. Pizzorno, a naturopathic physician and co-founder and president of Bastyr University, will speak at the University on Wednesday, May 28, at 8 p.m., in the River Road Auditorium, East River Road. His talk is titled The Seven Paths to Total Wellness. Tickets are $7 at the door.

Eating disorders

The Eating Disorder Network meets the third Tuesday of each month in Helen Wood Hall at 6:30 p.m. Meetings include presentations by professionals, visits from recovered volunteers, and informal group discussion. Meetings are facilitated by Richard Kreipe, director of the Adolescent Eating Disorder Program and are open to the public.

What is going on in health care

The University is sponsoring a three-part educational series on managed care, for clinical faculty and staff and administrative support staff with jobs that require health-care service interaction, such as billing and financial review. Part one of the series, which features Leo Brideau, general director of Strong Memorial Hospital, Ray Mayewski, medical director of clinical services, and Robert Panzer, medical director of StrongCare, will be offered twice, on June 9 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, in Room K 307, Medical Center, and July 18, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., in Whipple Auditorium, Medical Center.

Watching weight

A Weight Watchers At-Work Program meets every Wednesday, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 2-8529, Medical Center. The University community is invited to attend. For more information on the program, call 1-800-234-8080.

Catholic education

The Heart of the Matter, the annual summer institute on Catholic education at the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, will be held on Thursday, July 10, and Friday, July 11.

The institute, to be held on the River Campus, brings together Catholic educators, clergy, parents and others from a wide geographic area to reflect on the emerging direction of Catholic education. Participants will explore the role of technology in education, the role of leadership, and the spiritual dimension of their involvement in Catholic education, and they'll discuss the role of Catholic schools in society.

The $159 registration fee covers all materials, refreshments, luncheons, and parking for the institute. The deadline to register is June 16. For more information, call x5-7833.
