"Thank-you to all United Way donors for your generous contributions," says Lenora Colaruotolo, the University's United Way campaign coordinator. "And thank-you to the more than 600 campaign volunteers for giving so much energy and effort to what has closed as the University's most successful United Way Campaign." Although the "official" campaign has ended, there is still time to make a donation to the United Way, Colaruotolo says. Members of the University community can continue to make donations and return pledge cards to their volunteer.
The United Way is the chief funding tool for the social agencies that sustain the Rochester community.
"The University's $590,000+ to the overall United Way campaign is viewed throughout Rochester as a strong statement of our commitment to our neighbors and community," Colaruotolo says.
By raising more than $38 million, the 1997 campaign for the United Way of Greater Rochester generated the most money in donations in the charity's 79 year history. The campaign total of $38,002,718 in donations and pledges, surpassed the previous record of $37.4 million raised in the 1991 campaign. Last year's campaign raised $37 million.
"On behalf of the University of Rochester and the United Way of Greater Rochester, thank-you!," Colaruotolo says. "You 'Make Good Things Happen'."
