Partners in information technologies

The New York Computing in Higher Education Symposium, (NYCHES) will hold its first workshop at the University on August 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop, titled Partnering with Student Staff in Information Technologies, will discuss creating a strong partnership with students and staff, including an integration of work experience with ongoing education.

To learn more about NYCHES (a newly formed collaborative effort among the academic computing departments at University of Rochester, Syracuse University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Cornell University, University at Binghamton, University of Buffalo and Ithaca College) and to learn more about the workshop as final plans begin to shape up, visit the web site at gabweb.cit.cornell.edu/nyches/nyches.html.

The fee for the one day workshop will be $60, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch, afternoon break, workshop materials, and parking.

Job Fair '97

Job Fair '97 is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event provides an opportunity for University employers to meet potential student employees and to introduce students to to employment opportunities.

Free food

Dining Services presents its second annual Summer Test Kitchen, an opportunity for the staff to experiment with new menu items. The test kitchen recipes will be prepared and samples will be offered free to all customers in the Wilson Commons dining area, from noon to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, through July 23.

Dining Services is developing 100 new recipes for the University. All members of the University community are invited to taste the new recipes and fill out the response cards. One free lunch will be awarded each day from the returned comment cards to encourage a large customer participation.

Host families needed

The Rotary Student Exchange Program is sponsoring students from Germany, ages 16 through 18. Each host family would host for two or three months, from mid-August 1997 through July 1998.

Eating disorders

The Eating Disorder Network meets the third Tuesday of each month in Helen Wood Hall at 6:30 p.m. Meetings include presentations by professionals, visits from recovered volunteers, and informal group discussion. Meetings are facilitated by Richard Kreipe, director of the Adolescent Eating Disorder Program and are open to the public,. For more information, call x5-2964.

Watching weight

A Weight Watchers At-Work Program meets every Wednesday, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 2-8529, Medical Center. The University community is invited to attend. For more information on the program, call 1-800-234-8080.

Hackers and Whackers

The 12th Annual Hackers and Whackers Employee Golf Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 9 a.m., at Shadow Lake Golf Course, 1850 Five Mile Line Road. Cost is $60 per person and includes golf, cart, lunch, and banquet.
