Facilities phone calls

Beginning August 18, the Facilities Customer Service Center will be tape recording all phone calls. This will allow the Customer Service Center to adjust and improve response procedures to service calls, to collect data needed to evaluate and correct equipment failures, and to address other operational concerns.

Human Resources extends hours

In an effort to provide better customer service for employees, the Office of Human Resources has extended its hours of operation. Effective immediately, the Benefits Division will be open on Friday, from 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Monday, through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Employment Division will be open on Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Human Resources staff are available to answer questions and provide information about medical plans, tuition, retirement, employment, payroll, etc. The offices are located in the Medical Center: Benefits in Room G-8011, x5-2084; Employment in Room G-7009, x5-4989.

Customer Service Center

A new Customer Service Center will be opening on the first floor of the Susan B. Anthony Hall on August 25, in the location of the former Hillside Restaurant. The Customer Service Center will issue University ID cards, accept contracts and deposits for dining plans, encode copy cards, rent lockers, and provide general information and referrals. All services that had been provided at 25 Hollister are available at the new location.

The center will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more information, call the center at x5-3975 after August 25.

Bike for hope

The 12th annual Rochester Area Multiple Sclerosis 150 Bike Tour is scheduled for the weekend of September 6 and 7, and the University is putting together a team of cyclists to help raise money to fight the disease. Team URiders is looking for cyclists and volunteers to bike from Brockport on Saturday morning to Darien Lake Theme Park and Campgrounds. The MS 150 is a tour, not a race, so cyclists ride at their own pace.

Watching weight

A Weight Watchers At-Work Program meets every Wednesday, from noon to 1 p.m., in Room 2-8529, Medical Center. The University community is invited to attend. For more information on the program, call 1-800-234-8080.

Music auditions

Auditions for membership in the University of Rochester Symphony Orchestra will be held in Strong Auditorium on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 2 and 3. Membership is open to students and other experienced musicians from throughout Greater Rochester. Each auditioning musician will be asked to present two to three minutes of solo material showcasing tone and technique, as well as to sight read excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire.

Classic golf

The first Children's Hospital Classic will be held on Monday, September 15, at the Blue Heron Hills Country Club. The tournament will have a scramble format and will benefit the Children's Hospital at Strong and the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities.

A highlight of the tournament will be a Lexus lease prize package, contributed by Dorschel Lexus of Rochester. Participants will have the opportunity to bid on the chance to play in the Lexus Champions for Charity National in Palm Springs, California, December 11 through 13. The trip, which includes airfare for two, lodging, food, and the opportunity to play 54 holes to win $50,000 for Children's Hospital at Strong, will be auctioned off at the tournament.

Looking for smokers

Smokers' Self Help Project50, a new University study, is looking for 1,800 people over age 50 who would like to quit smoking. The project hopes to determine the most effective ways to help long-term smokers quit. Participants will receive a self-help manual, have access to a smokers' hotline, and will receive mail and telephone support. Up to $15 for telephone follow-up interviews will be provided to study participants.

Job Fair '97

Job Fair '97 is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event provides an opportunity for University employers to meet potential student employees and to introduce students to employment opportunities.

Eating disorders

The Eating Disorder Network meets the third Tuesday of each month in Helen Wood Hall at 6:30 p.m. Meetings include presentations by professionals, visits from recovered volunteers, and informal group discussion. Meetings are facilitated by Richard Kreipe, director of the Adolescent Eating Disorder Program and are open to the public.
