Medical Center plans entrance security

Effective today, March 10, a new door-locking policy will take effect throughout the Medical Center. The purpose of this change is to decrease the number of doors through which the general public can enter the facility after primary patient visiting hours have ended. This change will affect the following doors, which will be secured at 8:30 p.m. on a daily basis:

Crittenden Avenue Lobby entrance--Anyone with a valid University ID can access this entrance using the card-access swipe until 1:30 a.m., the time of the last RTS bus run. After that time, this door will not be accessible by ID card until 5 a.m. The staffed Elmwood entrance will remain open 24 hours a day.

The interior doors between the Emergency Department (ED) and the green elevators, as well as the stairwell door leading into the hospital-- Entering the ED from the hospital and exiting the hospital through the stairwell door will still be permitted, if necessary. However, the ED is not to be used as a thoroughfare.

Patient discharge entrance--This entrance secured at 8:30 p.m. Those with valid University ID cards should swipe for access.

UHS entrance--This entrance secured at 8:30 p.m. Those with valid ID cards should use Whipple entrance and swipe ID for access.

Whipple Circle entrance--This entrance secured at 8:30 p.m. Those with valid ID cards can swipe ID for access.

R-Wing Collector entrance--This entrance secured at 8:30 p.m. Those with valid ID cards can swipe ID for access.

S-Wing entrance/School of Medicine and Dentistry main entrance-- This entrance secured at 8:30 p.m. Those with valid ID cards can swipe ID for access.
