Sports Complex gets summer facelift
The River Campus Sports Complex is undergoing a number of summer construction projects, says Jeffrey Vennell, director of Sports and Recreation. "The upgrades will help us have an exciting fall sports season," he says.
Renovation projects include:
- Aerobics Room--The room has been painted, the mirrors moved, and a special new flooring is scheduled to be installed by the beginning of the semester.
- Beverages--Cold water coolers have been added in the Fitness Center and in the hallway outside the varsity and open weight facilities.
- Badminton--Court C of the Zornow Center has had floor sleeves installed and has new net poles.
- Training--New taping tables have been purchased for the training rooms and new stands for the whirlpools are being constructed.
- Handicapped access--New automatic doors have been installed along Faculty Road, and wheelchair seating has been installed in the Palestra and stadium. Handicapped toilet facilities have been added in both facilities.
- Locker rooms--In Fauver Stadium the showers will be painted along with one of the locker areas used by women's teams. All the lighting will be improved in the locker rooms and in the training room.
- Tracks--The outdoor track lines have been repainted, and approval was recently received to begin replacing the indoor track surface. November is the target for completion.
- Field Hockey--Progress has been made on the field hockey field. Construction is on schedule for planting around August 15. It will take at least a full year for the surface to establish itself.
