Miner Library expands hours

Based on feedback from Medical Center faculty, staff, and students, the Edward G. Miner Library began opening earlier effective Jan. 4. The library's new hours are: Sunday, noon­midnight; Monday­Thursday, 7:30 a.m.­midnight; Friday, 7:30 a.m.­8 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.­8 p.m.

The library's Learning Center also began new hours Jan. 4. They are: Sunday, noon­6 p.m.; Monday­Thursday, 8 a.m.­10 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.­6 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.­6 p.m.

Program will honor King's legacy

A celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, featuring a talk by Cliff Suggs, commissioner of the U.S. Federal Mediation and Concilation Service, will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 19 in Helen Wood Hall. Learn ISI Citation Databases

Librarians will demonstrate features of the ISI Citation Databases at walk-in sessions to be held in Rush Rhees Library, Room G113, on the following dates: Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2-3 p.m.; Friday, Jan. 16, 11 a.m. to noon and 2-3 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 20, 4-5 p.m.; and Thursday, Jan. 22, 5-6 p.m.

A representative from the Institute for Scientific Information will conduct two sessions on Friday, Jan. 30: 10-11 a.m. in Miner Library Classroom 2 and 1-2 p.m. in Rush Rhees Library Room G113.

Admissions to hold open house

The Office of Admissions, which recently moved to new offices in the Administration Building, will host an open house for the University community Friday, Jan. 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. For more information, call x5-3221.

New fitness classes start

The Medical Center Athletic Club has added six new programs that will start the third week of January. Open to both members and non-members, the new classes are: Healthy Back, Yoga, Weight Management, Ballroom Dancing, Motion Promotion, and Tai Chi. Call x5-1442.

Sign up for kids' vacation club

The University's Family Care Program is sponsoring vacation club for children ages 5-12. Operated by Camp Fire Boys and Girls, the camp is open to University employees and will be held Feb. 16-20 and April 13-17 from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the River Campus. Call Family Care at x3-4644 to request registration forms and fee information.

Weight-loss information available

The Weight Management Center at Strong Memorial Hospital is offering free informational orientations for people interested in losing and controlling their weight over the long term. Follow-up services are available to employees at a discount. For details, call x5-1630.

Women in Science to hold meeting

University of Rochester Women in Science will hold an introductory meeting Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m. in the Medical School Student Lounge. Professor Priscilla Auchincloss of the physics and astronomy department will give a short talk on the history of women in science.
