"This has been our best ever at the University in terms of dollars raised, percent participation, and the number of new donors," said coordinator Lenora Colaruotolo.
University employees contributed $630,000, up from $590,000 last year. More than a third of employees, 34.7 percent, gave to the campaign; 300 donors gave for the first time.
The University's record-breaking campaign mirrors the success of the United Way of Greater Rochester's community-wide campaign, which finished its 1998 season by reaching the greatest goal in its 80-year history: $38.1 million.
"We played a key role in the larger campaign's success," Colaruotolo said. "The University's participation and dollars raised climb higher every year, and this is a great statement in our role as a community leader."
