NEC will install new phone system
The Board of Trustees' Executive Committee has approved a contract with NEC Corp. for the installation of the new phone system for the University.
The University in the past year had been working with NEC in a "technical design process" to ensure that the proposed new system will accommodate the University's needs, and the company has been surveying existing phone equipment (ROLM phones) and wiring on campus.
NEC's other clients include such institutions as Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Fordham, Albany Medical Center, and St. Luke's Roosevelt Medical Center.
At Rochester, telephone coordinators have already been identified to serve as departmental liaisons for the installation process, and will be contacted as appropriate for the schedule for their particular unit.
The current schedule for the switchover is as follows:
- Highland Hospital phone sets installed: Dec. 8, 1998
- Highland Hospital ROLM phones disconnected: Dec. 18, 1998
- Medical Center phone sets installed, with both new and old phones functioning: March 1, 1999
- Medical Center ROLM phones disconnected: April 15, 1999
- River Campus, South Campus, Eastman School, Memorial Art Gallery phone installation begins: May 17, 1999
- River Campus, South Campus, Eastman School, Memorial Art Gallery installations completed: June 30, 1999
