Convocation to feature
Goergen awardsConvocation for students in the College and School of Nursing will include presentation of the Goergen Awards, recognizing contributions to undergraduate education in the College. Convocation will be held at noon Friday, September 11 on the Eastman Quadrangle. In case of rain, ceremonies will be held in Strong Auditorium. (College and School of Nursing faculty should confirm their attendance plans with the Conference and Events Office as soon as possible.)
The recipients of the Goergen Award for Distinguished Achievement and Artistry in Undergraduate Teaching who will be honored during the event are Alfred Clark Jr., Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics; Gerald Gamm, Departments of Political Science and History; Steven Gonek, Department of Mathematics; and Russell Peck, Department of English.
The Department of Mathematics will receive the Goergen Award for Curricular Achievement in Undergraduate Education for its calculus program.
The Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Learning will go to the Program for Women in Science and Engineering, directed by new dean for sophomores Priscilla Auchincloss, and to the Community Service Network for its programs, including Wilson Day.
The awards are named for and sponsored by board of trustees chairman Robert Goergen and his wife, Pamela.
A barbecue for students, faculty and staff of the College will be held on Wilson Commons Quad following the Convocation.
