FILM LOVER'S HEAVEN--Eastman School sophomore Steve Wierenga, son of Religion and Classics professor Edward Wierenga, catalogs one of 4,500 VHS tapes recently donated to the Film Studies Program by Frank Phillips '42. The diverse library of movies and television programs spanning decades will be available to students and faculty for research and new courses this fall. The archive's database can be searched by topic, name, date, director, studio, cast, writer, running length, and national origin. Titles include PBS staples like Rumpole of the Bailey; television episodes of Gunsmoke, Our Miss Brooks, and Perry Mason; comedy stylings ranging from Abbott and Costello, Lucille Ball and Jack Benny to Wayne's World and Police Squad; animated productions from Walt Disney Co. such as Cinderella and The Lion King; and box office draws from the past half century, including The Maltese Falcon, Pride of the Yankees, Spartacus, Mutiny on the Bounty with Marlon Brando, Dr. Strangelove, Fried Green Tomatoes, and the Star Trek series.
