September 19-20, Rochester Print Fair. Internationally known print dealers joined by Deborah Ronnen Fine Arts and The East West Gallery. Through November, Frederick Exley and Jonathan Yardley: A Novelist and his Biographer. An exhibition showcasing items ranging from Exley's Smith Corona manual typewriter and family photographs to letters from writers John Cheever, William Styron, and Larry McMurtry. Also works by Yardley, who researched his 1997 biography of Exley, Misfit: The Strange Life of Frederick Exley, at Rush Rhees Library. Through September 20, Vitreographs: Prints from Glass Plates. Pioneering glass artist Harvey Littleton has invited other artists to experiment with vitreography, an innovative printmaking process that uses sandblasted glass plates. The exhibition includes 49 vitreographs by many artists.
Through November 15, The Act of Painting: Gronk! In October, the Mexican-American artist, performer and art world phenomenon will spend several days painting a wall at the gallery. Visitors are invited to watch. The Act of Painting includes works from Kooning, Pollack, and four other abstract expressionists that will help provide a frame of reference around Gronk's visit.
Through January 4, Form and Glaze: Fulper Pottery from the Donald S. Hall Collection. Leopard Skin Crystalline, Elephant's Breath and Cat's Eye Flambe are but a few of the more than 200 glazes that distinguish Fulper ware, a prized American art pottery from the early 20th century. The installation includes more than 50 objects collected over the past 20 years by Donald S. Hall, former director of the Strasenburgh Planetarium.
