BARGAIN BOOKS--More than 1,200 people browsed at the 25th annual book fair last year.
This year's annual book fair hosted by the Friends of the University of Rochester Libraries will kick off a yearlong celebration of a library milestone: acquisition of the 3 millionth volume for the University's library system. The book fair, now in its 26th year, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 26 at the New York State Armory, 145 Culver Road, near I-490.
Admission is $4 at the door and free for Friends' members, students, and children. The fair benefits the University Libraries.
Nearly 50 exhibitors from the northeastern United States and southern Canada will offer books, maps, prints, and other unusual items from many fields. Throughout the day, there will also be a silent auction, appearances by faculty authors, and food.
The 1998-99 academic year is particularly important in the life of the University's libraries as it marks the 3 millionth volume to be added to the collection. Only a few major libraries in North America share that designation. Aspects of the depth and breadth of the University's collection will be examined this winter and spring through a range of festivities.
The book fair coincides with this year's Writers and Books Fall Festival of Reading, an array of activities promoting the literary arts. It will be held throughout the day at the Memorial Art Gallery and the School of the Arts. A University shuttle will transport people between the events and will stop at the rear entrance to Rush Rhees Library.
