Ryan Richard Ryan, psychology professor, will discuss "Motivation, Play, and Competition: The Psychology of Sports and Exercise" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 16 in Hoyt Hall on the River Campus.
Ryan, who co-wrote the book Intrinsic Motivation and Self-Determination in Human Behavior, will look at the reasons people start fitness activities, and why some have difficulty in continuing their exercise program while others enjoy success. He'll also discuss how people can generate more vitality and well-being through physical activity.
The event is part of the Wednesday Evening Lecture Series sponsored by the University's Alumni Association and co-sponsored by the Iota chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society of Rochester.
