October 27, Judith Hunter, research scholar at SUNY Geneseo, will give a 30-minute lecture on "The Burned-Over District: The Religious Context of Art in Antebellum Western NY, Illustrated by Pieces in the Gallery's Collection." Co-sponsored by the Print Club of Rochester. Auditorium, 5:30 p.m.

November 3, "A Perfect Balance": actor Kevin Reese in a 45-minute multimedia performance on artist Alexander Calder. Cutler Ballroom, 5:30 p.m.

November 3, Geoffrey Conrad, Indiana University, speaks on "The Rise and Fall of the Inca Empire." Co-sponsored by the Rochester chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America. 7:30 p.m.

Through November, Frederick Exley and Jonathan Yardley: A Novelist and his Biographer. An exhibition showcasing items ranging from Exley's Smith Corona manual typewriter and family photographs to letters from writers John Cheever, William Styron, and Larry McMurtry. Also works by Yardley, who researched his 1997 biography of Exley, Misfit: The Strange Life of Frederick Exley, at Rush Rhees Library. Through November 15, The Act of Painting: Gronk! In early October, the Mexican-American artist, performer and art world phenomenon spent four days painting a wall at the gallery. Visitors can view the completed mural, along with works from MAG's collection by de Koonig, Pollack, and four other abstract expressionists.

Through November 22, Kaleidoscope: Paintings and Drawings by Hananiah Harai. Influenced by the Cubist vocabulary and a lifelong passion for East European icons, Harai developed a lyrical, figurative style characterized by wit and joie de vivre. This show includes paintings, drawings, and collages from the '50s through the '80s, most from the artist's collection. Children's Corridor/ Forman Gallery.

Through January 4, Form and Glaze: Fulper Pottery from the Donald S. Hall Collection. Leopard Skin Crystalline, Elephant's Breath and Cat's Eye Flambe are a few of the more than 200 glazes that distinguish Fulper ware, a prized American art pottery from the early 20th century. The installation includes more than 50 objects collected over the past 20 years by Donald Hall, former director of the Strasenburgh Planetarium.
