Internet provider offers discounts

ACC TeleCom, which last September replaced VivaNet as the off-campus Internet service provider for University faculty, staff and students, is offering discounts to former VivaNet customers.

Introduced in September, Ican.net™ brings to off-campus users Internet access to the web and remote network access to University computing resources (for Internet Protocol-based applications only). Subscribers need a PC (486 with Windows 3.1 or greater) or a Mac (68030 minimum or Power PC), with at least 8 Mb RAM (16 Mb or more recommended) and a 14.4 Kbps modem or faster.

IP is the only protocol supported by the Ican.net remote network access service. Former VivaNet and other users looking for ARA and IPX access will need to seek an alternative provider.

Subscribers to Ican.net may choose from three plans:

All charges are subject to applicable taxes.

Former VivaNet customers receive two months free until April 1. The $10 registration fee also will be waived for those who had accounts with the former provider, VivaNet.

Faculty, staff and students who want to know what features the service provides can call 1-888-ACC-6116.

ACC TeleCom is a wholly-owned subsidiary of ACC Corp., an international telecommunications holding company based in Rochester.
