HR opens River Campus office
In an effort to make services more readily available to departments and employees, the Office of Human Resources has undergone a transformation that includes the establishment of a River Campus office in the Administration Building. This satellite office also will serve the Eastman School, South Campus, and Memorial Art Gallery.
The new Human Resources organization consists of:
- University Office of Human Resources, located at the Towne House, Suite 202, 1325 Mt. Hope Ave. with responsibility for affirmative action, employee education (LEARN), wage and salary program development, human resources information system (HRIS), and unemployment.
- University Benefits Office, Room G-8011, Medical Center will handle benefit design and administration, and counseling on retirement and life insurance plans.
- Office of Human Resources at the Medical Center, Room G-7009, will handle recruitment, compensation, new hire benefit enrollment, tuition enrollment forms and employee and labor relations for Medical Center departments and employees.
- Office of Human Resources at the River Campus, Room 25, Administration Building will handle recruitment, compensation, new hire benefit enrollment, tuition enrollment forms and employee and labor relations for campuses other than the Medical Center.
"One of the reasons we've created an office on the River Campus is to make services more readily available to the sizable group of employees and staff who work there," said Al Brault, director of human resources. "We want staff to feel that there is a convenient location where they can go to deal with job-related concerns, pick up and drop off medical and tuition forms and speak with HR staff confidentially. We think this new configuration will work better for the staff of the other campuses as well."
Most human resources questions can be answered in the River Campus office. This includes workplace issues and/or concerns, clarification of employment, job listings, work-related forms, and basic benefits questions.
Staff on the River Campus include: Barb Saat, manager, x5-3874; Dan Howland, senior representative, x5-4700; Michele Kane, representative, x5-2093; Susan Leahy, secretary, x5-7756; Semra Ozturkoglu, HR assistant, x5-3396; and Gwen Martins, HR manager at Rush Rhees library, x5-4463. The office is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fax number is 756-0165.
"In addition to the River Campus HR staff, we have established close working relationships with administrators and staff within the larger divisions who have been trained to handle human resources duties for their departments as part of their job responsibilities," Brault said.
The idea, Brault noted, is to move routine human resources duties into individual departments and offices, while simplifying the HR process overall.
"Decentralizing some practices will provide employees with a more efficient and quick turnaround on their HR questions," he said.
