FUTURE FROSH--During Spring Open Campus last week, freshman Erin Masterson, left, and 150 other students were hosts to some 260 high school seniors who have been accepted to the University and came to check it out. Masterson, a Buffalo native, takes Lauren Danziger (Rockville, N.Y.) and Gretchen DeVries (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) to Gilbert Hall to drop off their gear before seeing the sights.

31.4% of University employees had given to the campaign as of 4/14. Participation goal: 50%. Campaign total as of 4/14: $558,100.06.

The United Way campaign is ahead of last year's pace, organizers reported last week.

Employee participation and dollars raised are both outpacing 1997's rate. Participation last year at this point in the campaign was 29.7 percent. Funds raised last year by this time totaled $514,069.61. (See graph above for 1998 figures.)

Nearly half of all pledge cards distributed at the University, or 47 percent, still have not been returned, said Lenora Colaruotolo, campaign coordinator.
