SUMMER HIRING PROCEDURES

As you begin to assess your summer hiring needs, keep in mind that many University students are interested in working on campus this summer in either part-time or full-time positions. Student payroll ends May 27.

University policy requires that summer positions be made available to continuing full-time UR students first. The Center for Work and Career Development (CWCD) will begin posting summer positions for students by mid-May.

To post an existing job (one that has already been assigned a job number), simply send a completed Position Action Form with the appropriate pay rate and other revisions to the center. When you fill a position, send a Student Employee Payroll Authorization Form to the center to authorize the student to be paid.

Jobs remain posted until the center is notified by telephone or until a Payroll Authorization Form is received. For more information, call x5-2138.

Departments have two options for hiring a University graduating senior (no longer eligible to be paid on student payroll) or non-University student. They are:

  1. You may process a 700/600 form and send it to your HR Field Office and indicate whether a candidate has been identified. Job posting requirements will be waived since positions are for the summer only.

Hiring rates for these positions will be kept consistent with the University CWCD Job and Wage Classification System. Students working in the hospital or a department requiring a health assessment and a drug and alcohol screen must be scheduled for both before they can begin work.

  2. You may also contact the TSP Office with the identified candidate. An appointment will need to be set up with TSP for the individual to get the necessary paperwork completed in order to be hired; a health assessment and drug and alcohol screen may also be required (this needs to happen before they begin working). The TSP Office can be reached at x5-7873 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
