Sophomore class gets new dean
Priscilla Auchincloss has replaced Sharon Fluker, who has relocated to Atlanta, as the College's sophomore dean.
Dean Auchincloss, who joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy in 1989, is a research associate in experimental particle physics. She focuses on the growing diversity of the science community, teaches in the area of women and gender in science, and directs programs that expand teaching and research opportunities for students in the College.
The sophomore advising team in the Center for Academic Support is Karen Frasier, Anna Harrison, and Ben Ojala.
The dean and advising team form the backup to faculty advisers. All are here to talk with students about their goals, plans, questions, and problems--academic and otherwise. Almost any important problem may affect a student's academic life.
Here is some sophomore-specific information:
- Along with sophomores and others in the College, Dean Auchincloss will be working on the agenda laid out by the Sophomore Subcommittee of the Rochester College Commission in 1997. Students who would like to be involved in this ongoing project can call Dean Auchincloss. For details, see the subcommittee's report at www.rochester. edu/student-srvcs/rcc/; click on "Subcommittees," then "Former Subcommittees," which leads to a list including the Sophomore Subcommittee.
- The handbook Major Decision can help students choose a concentration and divisional clusters during their sophomore year. Copies are available at the counter outside Lattimore 312.
- Spotlight on Sophomores activities over the year introduce students to the people and programs available to enrich their college experience. Fall events now in the works focus on planning for summer jobs and internships, as well as meeting with recent alumni in the Rochester area.
