Volunteers sought for April conference
From airport greeters to excursion hosts, several hundred people will be needed as volunteers when college students from all over the country travel here for the National Conference on Undergraduate Research on Thursday, April 8, to Saturday, April 10.
Student groups and individuals have started lining up for assignments, but organizers also are looking for staff and faculty members who can give a few hours to offer directions and be resources for about 2,000 people that are expected.
"We want to extend to the visiting students and faculty the most gracious welcome and hospitality that this university has to offer," said Jennifer Chisholm, volunteer coordinator of the NCUR 99 Organizing Committee. "We want everyone who comes to NCUR 99 to leave knowing how great the University of Rochester--and its community--is."
The national conference, which promotes academic achievement by undergraduates, attracts as many as 250 colleges and universities each year. Students and their faculty advisors will fan out to more than a dozen locations on the River Campus.
To volunteer, e-mail Chisholm at jchisholm@services.rochester.edu or call her at x3-5207.
